Changi – a destination in itself, apart from being a gateway to Singapore – and recognised and lauded internationally, raises the bar to the stratosphere (literally) with the Jewel, opening on  17 April 2019.
Apart from being ‘just’ another airport, it is also 10 storeys high, with five above ground and five basement levels.
With more than 280 shops and F&B outlets.
And an indoor garden flourishing in natural sunlight (Forest Valley) with 2,500 trees and 100,000 shrubs and a 40 m high indoor waterfall (Rain Vortex) which transforms into a light and sound show at night.
Two walking trails.
A sprawling rooftop park (Canopy Park) with a 50m long suspended bridge, a glass floor, a 250m long bouncing net, mazes and slides.
Linked to Terminals 2 and 3 via air-conditioned pedestrian bridges and travelators.
Of special interest to those who like to know ‘how it is done’ :
What makes this so fascinating and absorbing – above all of the features listed above – is the construction of the Jewel. Its steel and glass dome is made up of more than 9,000 pieces of specially manufactured glass, each with unique dimensions, each piece labelled with a QR code to locate and fit precisely in its allotted space in the grand scheme of the roof. The panels transmit light to reduce heat and enable plants to thrive inside. An air gap of 16mm between panels provide insulation and minimise noise from the aircraft.
It promises to be a go to destination not just for travelers but for all in Singapore – this has to be seen and experienced !!
